We didn’t invent motherhood

But we must bear it.

Not unresistingly,

Not quietly.

We must walk in the footsteps

Of our foremothers

So that they can guide us with their wisdom

And experience.

We must be careful with the hearts

Of those we love

And who love us

Like we are the only thing that matters.

Don’t be dragged down by your importance

Your status as the centre of your children’s universe.

Be rather

Shored up by the meaning

You create

By simply being yourself.
